As a Ceramicist I am preoccupied by the patterns and designs in everyday life. This initially focused my sculptural visions towards pipes, drain covers, grills and wells.
I have a background in Book Arts and with this approach to sculpture, I consider my pieces as Books, with a cover and narrative within.
With an urge to consider my impact within a cycle of consumerism, I’ve been creating trompe l’oeil of packaging and spoonerisms of branding. I’ve designed and created a series of giant matchboxes which make subversive comments on society and how we live. The ceramic fragile boxes resemble cardboard but are in themselves brittle and fragile. The forest package, with my own take on Amazon, is addressed to myself in Cornwall, questioning my own footprint upon our forests in a circular network of so-called recycling. Cycling route to Ladock with Map expresses a stubbornness to conform to new technology for navigating my journeys and a yearning to make these delicate but indispensable documents permanent.
