I use photography, text, craft, printmaking, publishing, and participation to create works inspired by popular culture. Through acts of appropriation and by the elaborate remaking of recognisable cultural forms, I aim to create works which are both familiar and yet off kilter somehow. A storytelling of sorts.
Some of my photographic works which are analogue and colour saturated, sit visually between painting and photography. Other stereoscopic photographs play between the two dimensional plane of the photograph and an illusory 3D viewing experience. Created to be enjoyed, the stereoscopes function as public art.
In contrast, my reading projects are monochrome and tend towards the polemic or the tragic. Immersing myself in the world of literary fiction, I have adopted the techniques of conceptual writing to isolate single themes from the text. Print, publishing and photography are all used to render these new poetic forms. Condensed and highly crafted versions of my chosen novels now exist as the residue of earlier readings.
