For a while now I’ve worked
in two ways.
Firstly by making physical models, in order to anticipate or replicate
reality.
The approach is similar to how a sculptor makes a maquette or how a scientist
might make a molecular model. I use these as a source from which to develop
paintings
Secondly I make images where the models (conventions) of painting itself,
and dialogues between these different conventions, becomes the basis of
the work.
The notion of a model increases the traffic within the image and lets
me evoke real things within the condition of abstract painting.
