Biography

Sculpture, relief sculpture, box works and works on paper in mixed media.

Nature, and our relationship to it, plays a central role in the overall conceptualisation behind much of my work. My starting points can often be found in encounters with the landscape and the particular things I find there. The work develops as a reaction to those moments, incorporating references to other worlds (technology, architecture, mathematics) as the process unfolds, resulting in works layered with a number of partial or fractured narratives. In this process, allusion, connection, memory, flow, uncertainty and discovery are values I explore.

“Phil Booth has created an artistic language very much his own through the use of mixed media and with a working method that leaves little to chance, but which paradoxically results in a sense of spontaneity and discovery. He has created an approach to sculpture that is adventurous and innovative and which – through unconscious visual osmosis – incorporates forms from the English architectural landscape in very subtle ways”
